Whether the bike ferry is running or not, this is sort of the end of the bike path. Great bike ride destination or good for long runs in marathon training. TIP: there are places to park closer to the causeway (Airport Park). Once you are on the causeway you are surrounded by the lake and it can be windy - for miles!

About one minute from my door; south into Burlington, north to Canada.

Take a long bike ride down the Burlington bike path, out across the lake on the beautiful causeway. This bike ferry can then get you across the gap and into the islands for a day excursion. Rent bikes at Local Motion right downtown!

You are so close to the bike path. Rent bikes at Local Motion or bring your own. Bike to Colchester and take the ferry. Continue on to the Champlain Islands… A lovely day trip.

The Island Line Trail ranks as one of the most scenic vistas in the world and is some of the easiest riding and walking terrains in all of Vermont. Superb biking, walking, gorgeous views, trails, farms, and good food await you along the Island Line Trail. The Trail starts south of downtown Burlington in Oakledge Park and parallels the lakeshore past nature reserves and across the Colchester Causeway via the Bike Ferry. Our specially equipped bike ferry, the Bill and Carole Hauke 2, will carry you comfortably across the 200 foot "cut" whether you are heading south from the Islands or north from the Burlington/ Colchester area.
