We love, love, love the WA state ferries. You can go for a day trip to Bainbridge Island to have lunch or to Vashon Island. Other ferries launch from other locations and head to many of the other islands and over to the Peninsula. Well worth the effort and quintessential Seattle.
Take the ferry to an island! A wonderful trip, great views, and things to do on the other side. Plan your trip online. Cheep and pedestrians pay only one way!
I recommend taking a ferry before dusk. Eating diner over on Bainbridge Island and then returning at night so you can see the city at night.
Be sure and enjoy a ferry ride on Puget Sound. It gives you an entirely different perspective on the area. There are many ferry ride choices, but one that's close to the Inn and very picturesque is The Mukilteo to Clinton Ferry that takes you onto Whidbey Island for the day. You can drive up the Island stopping along the way at various sights and leaving Whidbey at the north end passing through Anacortes to swing east towards Mount Vernon and I-5 and then south on I-5 back to the Inn. The whole route is about 95 miles and can easily be done in a day. It's a great day trip we've done many times with guests.

Don't miss this Seattle experience. Take nearby Fauntleroy Ferry to Vashon Island or the Kitsap peninsula, go downtown and catch a ferry to Bremerton or Bainbridge Island (you can walk on this one and have lunch on the island), or go to Mukilteo or Anacortes for even bigger island adventures (Whidbey and San Juans, respectively).
