Forty minutes away from our farmhouse this fabulous city is a particular favourite area of ours. Like Manchester on speed! The ‘old town’ is unbelievable with great shops such as H and M, Casa and many more the Christmas vibe is amazing. Wok 86 is a must if you enjoy Chinese cuisine.

The home of the comic book festival, search the city for cartoon wall murals. Lots of restaurants in the old town streets on the central plateau near the stunning town hall. January: cartoon festival. September: Rally of the Ramparts, Vintage car racing and displays in the city centre.

It was during this time that the city walls, called Les Ramparts were first built, as well as St Pierre Cathedral whose spire can be seen from miles around. Also the home of the Circuit des Ramparts since 1939 in September each year is awash with cars from all years that race on a road circuit in the city.

Located on a plateau overlooking the meander of the Charente river, nicknamed the "balcony of the southwest". Angouleme was a fortified town for a long time and was highly coveted due to its position at the centre of many roads important to communication. The town hosts the international comic festival, a place of history culture.
