A 200-year-old warehouse that tells the actually pretty interesting story of the Thames and the people who settled alongside it. Why go? To understand the rich history of the area, from Roman times right through to the rise of Canary Wharf. Lose yourself in historic photographs and source material from the Port of London Authority Archive, Metropolitan Fire Brigade footage and captured Nazi footage and testimonies that explore the port’s role in top-secret wartime projects.

The main venue for the 2012 London Olympics is now a lush parkland studded with major sporting destinations. The immaculate parklands to the north launched in summer 2013, a year after the Games, their paths and waterways enhanced by the new Timber Lodge Café. Next came the Zaha Hadid-designed Aquatics Centre, which is open for public swimming and diving sessions, followed by the VeloPark, home to road, track, BMX and mountain biking, and the southern section of the park. The latter comprises all the remaining parkland, including children's play areas, four walking trails, a couple of dozen public artworks, plus the attraction of ascending the ArcelorMittal Orbit.

Walthamstow Reservoir has finally reopened to the public after undergoing an £8.7 million redevelopment since 2012. Consisting of ten reservoirs, the 211-hectare Walthamstow Wetlands will form the largest urban wetland in Europe. It’s a prime wildlife-spotting site, particularly for swans, kestrels and geese – though it should be noted that dogs are not permitted on the site in order to protect the wildlife. E17’s industrial history gives the area an unusual aesthetic, with old metalworks and even gunpowder mills dotting the fecund green spaces. The onsite Marine Engine House (built in 1894) has been completely restored, chimney and all, to serve as a visitor centre and café. It’s a place to fish, spy, and walk.

God's Own Junkyard is a museum and workshop devoted to neon signs. It was created by Chris Bracey, who in the 1970s joined his father's firm, based in Walthamstow, which made illuminated signs for circuses and fairgrounds. In the 1980s he was specialising in making neon signs for film sets. Today the museum holds over 700 flashing tubes of colour and other weird and wonderful objects d’art!

Huge shopping centre with plenty of variety both inside and out. Just three stops on the tube makes this a great day out for anyone in London looking for something to do. Great mix of shops and interspersed with food outlets meaning you can stop off for a coffee or meal from almost anywhere in the centre.

Open 24 hours, this East End institution serving freshly baked filled bagels has become the snack-stop of choice for clubbers, drinkers and taxi drivers. What do we love most about this institution? Perhaps the brilliant moist salt beef, carved as you wait from a slab kept warm in the front window, or the classic smoked salmon and cream cheese, or the bagels (boiled before being baked) these fillings go into. Or could it be the 24-hour opening with hot bread pulled fresh from the ovens all night, or a Brick Lane location that makes this the snack stop of choice for clubbers, imbibers and taxi drivers?

There are household items on display from old days, WW2 rationing info, Victorian living room, toy museum, dress, a jail cell, an an automobile from a local inventor and a nice garden in the old vestry house. It's was a fascinating museum!
