Our place is close to a section of Kittery on Rte.1 known locally as "Gourmet Alley". It includes a butcher shop, greengrocer, bakery, fresh pasta shop, fish monger, and chocolate shop. Slightly off of Rte.1 you'll find another butcher shop and a fish store. We are in the heart of gastronomic heaven.

Go for snacks when they open at 3:30 (conveniently timed for end of shift at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard) and stay for dinner. Otherwise, be prepared to wait because they don't take reservations. That said, owner Gavin or his top notch staff will offer you a drink and you can chat up the other aspirational diners until a table opens up. We like to sit at the bar and watch Al spin LPs. Housed in a building that was constructed to portray a typical colonial-era New England country store for the 1964 World's Fair in New York. It has been carefully renovated for its new iteration as a restaurant. The fare is "modern colonial" meaning it will reflect food long served in New England taverns using mostly local ingredients. Each dish has a modern twist. We've dined her only once but it was a delicious meal served in a lovely environment. A walk across the street in Prescott Park before or after is recommended.

You're in Maine. Unless you have a shellfish allergy (no laughing matter) you're probably going to want some lobster or fried seafood. This is a no-judgement zone.
Lobster in the rough. Picnic tables on the side of Chauncey Creek. Boiled lobsters, steamers, corn...the classic lobster boil. A few other dishes but quite basic. Locals know to bring their own side dishes, drinks, and dessert. Some people go all out and bring their own tablecloths and candles. We've been known to pop a bottle of champagne to go with our lobsters. Classic Maine.

We rarely ever go to the part of town with the outlet malls but if you find yourself there this is one of three places we'd recommend you might eat in that part of town. The Other are Bob's Clam Hut almost across the street and Pigs Fly Pizzaria and Bakery heading North on Rte. 1.

Classic egg and toast place. Hearty omelettes, french toast etc . Back patio. There will be a line on summer weekends, plan on it. I'd suggest getting a really good coffee at Kaffee Vonsolln next door to soothe you while you wait.

After falling into disrepair this beautiful hotel is back in action. The service at Salt can be spotty but it does serve a spectacular breakfast. It serves other meals but I'm highlighting it for its breakfast. Nothing else like it really.
We don't have many doughnut places in our parts. This one opened recently. Vegan. Very good. I bring my own coffee though...need 1/2 and 1/2...oatmilk just doesn't cut it.
