Local beauty spots & food

The Hayburn Wyke Inn is an 18th Century coaching inn set in woodland next to the coast between Scarborough and Whitby. Today the Inn is a popular country pub offering a warm welcome in traditional surroundings where you can relax in the bar and enjoy hand pulled Yorkshire Ales and great food. The bar has lots of character with traditional wooden floors and beams, not forgetting the roaring open fire to greet you on your arrival. A short walk through the woods behind the pub will take you to a cove where you are met with a stoney beach and a cascading waterfall. A cosy favourite and only a 5 minute drive or an approx 2 mile walk up the cinder track.

An absolute must see! A 10 minute drive from the cottage boasts one of the most beautiful tea rooms in the North Yorkshire Moors. Enjoy a bacon buttie, hot soup, or a freshly baked scone with jam and a hot yorksire brew in the enchanted woods whilst listening to the calming sounds of falling foss. There is a fun playground for children and during the colder months a cosy fire pit to toast complimentary marshmallows. Enjoy a peaceful walk through the surrounding woodland and a potter on the stepping stone over the river. Access to the tea rooms is easy and parking is readily available.

The local Food scene

A minutes walk from the cottage you will find 'the local'. The Blacksmiths Arms Inn is 250 years old and has been restored beautifully with a traditional feel. Even the Queen and Price Philip have eaten here. The Inn serves good quality pub food (booking recommended) and a beer garden to the rear. Dogs are welcome in the bar area.

A personal favourite of mine. Whats not to enjoy about 'the jollies'. The pub serves great home made food which is always served quickly with friendly service. Followed by what I like to call 'school puddings' which are perfect following a hearty meal next to the open fire. The jollies has a beautiful beer garden for a refreshing drink on a hot day and part of the pub is dog friendly where you can also eat your meal. I highly recommend the chicken curry. Why not take a short stroll down the cinder track to the village of Burniston where the pub is located.

The perfect place to sit, rest and enjoy the view. A short walk from the cottage, the rocky bay is perfect for exploring and popular with sea angling. Down on the shore, spot the marine creatures taking shelter in the shallow rock pools and catch a glimpse of the multitude of birds that are residents throughout the year. Located on the ever popular Cleveland way, the wyke makes its stunning contribution to this enchanting coastline. Top Tip - turn left out of the cottage and take a right turn down Newlands Lane.
