A fishing village for generations, this coastal town has been modernized thanks to the construction of the Riviera Nayarit Marina —the largest and most modern of the corridor. Nayarit Marina has helped to create a Nayarit destination that harmoniously combines the traditional life of a Mexican pueblo with the sophistication of a modern development. So, when visiting La Cruz, as the locals call it, you will have the opportunity to witness postcardworthy scenes such as the arrival of fishermen on the pier in their Panga boats loaded with a variety of fish. https://www.rivieranayarit.com/destinations/la-cruz-de-huanacaxtle/

very popular with Mexican families and a safe swimming beach. Huge rocks protect it on both sides so the waves are usually smaller, and there is a roped off area for swimming and you don't have to worry about fishing boat traffic. Las Cargadas is the tiny beach past the rocks to the south of Playa Los Muertos. There are other little beaches here that are best accessed by kayak or Stand up Paddle board from Sayulita. for directions visit: https://www.sayulitalife.com/sayulita-beaches

What to Wear?

Once you get here and get into the "mañana" frame of mind, what you wear won't seem quite as important. And that way you'll leave plenty of room to bring back souvenirs and a bottle of your favorite tequila for friends and family. Life here in Mexico is very casual and the weather is usually warm, so beach wear, casual resort wear, and flip flops or sandals are perfect during the daytime. Bring a pair of lightweight pants and a sweater or light jacket as the evenings can sometimes get cool in the winter months. A comfortable pair of tennis shoes or comfortable walking shoes.

Travel and Health Insurance

Some US health care plans provide health coverage in Mexico, but it is typically limited, so ask your health care provider what is covered before you travel. If your travel to Mexico is not covered by your medical plan, you may need to buy insurance separately. Because Mexico does not have any reciprocal health care arrangements with any other country, all treatment you receive from clinics and hospitals including doctor visits, medication, emergency transportation, etc. must be paid in full. Lenguage

The majority of business owners and residents in Sayulita do not speak English, however you will find that most wait staff at local restaurants speak some English, so you will be able to get by without much Spanish. However, speaking to business owners, taxi drivers and local people you meet may prove to be a bit more of a challenge. Learning a few key words and phrases, like hello, how are you, my name is, please, thank you, I'm sorry, when, where, and how much will definitely come in handy. Remember to speak slowly and smile. Weather

We enjoy over 320 days of sunshine per year, with temperatures averaging 28°C (82°F). Because Banderas Bay is surrounded by the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Sierra Madre Mountain range on the east, we have a sub-tropical climate with basically two seasons: The Dry Season runs from November to May, when daytime temps are 25-29°C (78-85°F), cooling to around 13-18°C (55-65°F) at night during the winter months. The Rainy Season runs from June to October, bringing tropical rains and temperatures in the 90°sF with very high humidity. The hottest months are July and August.

Summer Deals!

If you are concerned about hot, humid weather and the rains, be sure to book a vacation rental with a pool and air conditioning, at least in the bedrooms. The nightly rain showers are soothing and refreshing to sleep to, but it does not cool down much at night in the summer and fall, so be sure to get A/C, you will need it! Taking a swim in the ocean to cool off can also be a good way to beat the heat. Summers in Sayulita are undoubtedly the best time for great DEALS & SPECIALS on beachfront, and luxury vacation rentals that you cannot find during the high season.

PATIENCE

Life is slow and laid back in Mexico and especially coastal villages like Sayulita. People take their time doing things and "mañana" is an expression that does not necessarily mean tomorrow, only "not today." When you arrive to Sayulita, please leave all of your hasty and grand expectations behind. Enjoy the village and the peacefulness it offers to residents and visitors alike. Unlike the USA or Canada, getting mad and/or raising your voice does not bring about positive results; it simply shows your lack of understanding of the foreign culture and will make people shy away from you.
