Great Walks

Here are some lovely walks. Please bear in mind you need suitable footwear and equipment to attempt walks in the Peak district. The weather changes fast so go prepared for 4 seasons in 1 day! Do not rely on Google maps for walks, they can lead you into danger.

Stunningly beautiful 30 mins away by car. Edale is the name given both to the valley between Mam Tor, Lose Hill and Kinder Scout and to its main settlement. As well as the main village there are several small farming hamlets strung out along the valley. It is a beautiful setting and is the start of the Pennine Way.

Chrome Hill is a limestone reef knoll. A quirk of geology has produced a strand of sharp limestone hills which erupt like a string of vertiginous miniature mountains from the haymeadows and soft pastures of the higher Dove Valley, near Buxton. The Dragon’s Back range are often cited as the only true peaks in the Peak District; a line of pinnacles said to resemble the ‘plates’ along the spine of a stegosaurus dinosaur. Beautiful walk but not for the faint hearted or those who fear heights.

If you like delicious home made cakes and ice cream, and animals, then this is the place for you. On my last visit we saw pygmy goats, donkeys, and farmyard cats, and enjoyed wonderful and very reasonably priced coffee and cake. There is a magnificent view from the cafe back room, nature walks and Craft classes. Fun and yum!
