Take a two-mile walk with me, a writer on Los Angeles, through Echo Park on an art and writing pilgrimage through one of Los Angeles’ most culturally rich neighborhoods. As we walk, I’ll invite you to respond creatively to what you’re experiencing primarily through photography. • At the boathouse, we'll go over the inspiration for the route we’ll take. You’ll receive an photographic map that includes an article on Echo Park I wrote for the Los Angeles Times. • We’ll walk along Echo Park Lake, a scenic spot with views of downtown LA and the surrounding hills. • As we continue into nearby historic districts, I’ll weave together stories from the area’s past. We’ll also explore the contrast between dense housing and hidden green spaces, and the urban jungle as a source of both chaos and peace. • Heading back toward the heart of Echo Park, we’ll stop at murals, galleries, and independent art spaces. We’ll close at Echo Park Lake by sharing what we’ve created during our adventure. Honey Bee Therapy

Observe the motto, “All the bees work together for the health of the planet” and join me in a sacred realm where you’ll transcend the facts about bees and discover how to connect with the complexity of nature. Safety first: We will go over rules of engagement and safely learn to co-exist with these fuzzy pollinators by respectfully entering their hive in order to observe the inner workings of the colony. We will move slowly and do a brief breathing exercise to quiet our minds. You’ll learn about their life cycle, different roles in the hive, their fascinating social structure and ways of communicating through dance, sound and pheromones. You may even meet the Queen and feed the bees honey. Other things to note Please bring your camera and extra water on hot days. Please wear light color clothing, loose thick long pants, closed-toe shoes and long socks. Do not wear heavy perfumes or shampoos. Text me upon arrival.

Learn how to raise backyard chickens

Temporary pause due to air quality from Eaton Fire. See you again starting January 30, 2025. Imagine your breakfast with wholesome, nutritious eggs from your own backyard hens. Raising chickens is rewarding for the whole family. Come see for yourself! Get a chance to hand-feed our hens (fun for photographs) and see if it's for you. Or just relive what it is like to be around them if your grandma had them or if you were raised with them. Want to set up a group or corporate event? Contact me about a private group. I’m also happy to add classes to the calendar to fit different schedules if you don’t see one you like. I'll answer your questions and cover the dos and don'ts for starting and caring for your flock. How to choose the right breeds for your area, what age you want (Day-old chicks? Laying age? Hatching eggs?), house them, feed them, care for them, and still have your neighbors on speaking terms. This Experience focuses on chickens as pets and for eggs. I don't keep roosters or meat birds, although I will be happy to answer questions. Seating is provided. I will provide some resource notes on raising chickens as well as egg-based recipes to try later. My hope is you’ll enjoy spending time in appreciation of Nature, learn about where our food comes from, and slow down long enough to appreciate the sights, sounds and habits of chickens.

LA River Eco Tour and Secret Stair Hike

This hike is unlike any other experience you'll find in LA. Secret stairs, abandoned trolley lines, and hidden pathways form the basis of the unique route used for this neighborhood walk. We start by the LA River for an in depth look into the river's past. The LA River isn't just a great place to film a car chase for a movie like Grease or Terminator 2, it also has its own amazing (and terrifying) history. Next, you'll walk through a section of Elysian Valley and hear how this neighborhood is rapidly becoming a hotspot for development. What does this mean for the future of Frogtown and its residents? We'll discuss! A small section of the forgotten street car lines has been turned into a trail in Silver Lake. We will use that to connect to Echo Park, where reclusive occult organizations and self-sufficent religious compounds were tucked into the hills, connected by secret stairways! These hidden stairs and trails cross right through a neighborhood minutes away from Dodger Stadium. From the hills we can often see the Hollywood Sign and Griffth Observatory. After some hills and stairs, the tour returns to Frogtown and the LA River. Here, we will see how the river is finding an identity in modern LA. Biking, cafes, pocket parks, and more all show that the river is alive with activity. This is the final stretch and now you've seen LA in a truly one of a kind way!

Model for one day in LA

Your personal photoshoot! The experience is meant for everyone who wants a professional, individualistic service with artistic results. You will receive the whole pre-edited album! Usually around 70-100 photos! Retouched finals are available under request. The average client has little to no modeling experience and is willing to promote their self-image or want beautiful memories of Los Angeles while boosting their self-esteem. I also receive many clients who need new photos for their dating profiles. The photo shoot is private; it's not a group experience (unless you book the private group option). If you are more comfortable, you can come with your significant other, but they won't participate in the photo shoot. An adult must accompany anyone under 18. If you'd like to book a day or an hour that is closed on the calendar, feel free to send me a message. I highly recommend booking weekdays instead of weekends (they are less busy) and evening shifts instead of morning shifts because of the lighting conditions.

Explore LA River Neighborhood with Corgis

We'll explore some of the hidden treasures of the Los Angeles River's Glendale Narrows section. Full of birds, bugs and plants, it's a photogenic stretch with the dynamic and vibrant neighborhood of Frogtown just above. The LA River Corgis - Kasha and Chase - will also be on hand for their cameos. You will be outdoors and likely moving the entire time, which makes this an ideal outing for COVID times. It varies with each group, but our route is usually 1 1/2 to 2 miles. Your guide, Anthea Raymond, is a long-time resident and kayaker active in the River communities. From the adjacent bike path and pocket parks, she'll tell you about the the unique landscape and history of the river -- the birthplace of Los Angeles. She will also take you inside the soft-bottom riverbed. You will also get the inside scoop on the creative businesses popping up next to the river as well as as plans to create a world class park there. Other things to note: Wear your walking shoes. Bring a hat, sunscreen, a water bottle, and, of course, your smartphone or camera! We'll provide the corgi treats. Be ready for some corgi hugs and kisses. Feel like raising the adventure level? Let us know and we can schedule special routes that take you to the LA River's yet-untamed left bank. These walks would meet at different locations and might include a stop at a former train yard.

Urban Fishing Experience

This is an urban fishing experience right in the middle of Los Angeles. Offering a unique perspective of LA most locals haven’t even experienced. Be prepared to have fun, be outdoors, and hopefully catch a fish! This experience is advertised for Echo Park but we can accommodate anywhere in or around LA i.e., Santa Monica, Lake Balboa, MacArthur Park. etc. You will need to purchase a fishing license if you are 16yrs or older! I will provide all necessary materials. Fishing rods, bait, and any necessary tackle. This is a 2 hour trip. it’s all up to the fish, there is no guarantee what fish, or how many we will catch! I can promise one thing. You will have a great time! You will learn a lot about yourself and your party. Your kids can learn to fish! Fishing offers a great opportunity for conversation, relaxation, and reflection. Also, how crazy will it be to go home and tell your friends about the fish you caught in the middle of LA!
