The residence is owned by an avid antique collector who has tastefully refurbished the traditional Antigua home, which features vibrant colors, an interior courtyard, and lush gardens. Wake up to the smell of freshly made coffee, prepared for you by one of our kind staff members, take a seat at the breakfast table in the exterior veranda while overlooking the imposing water volcano. Listen to the birds happily chirp away, your breakfast is soon served and your Antigua adventure about to begin. Sit back and relax, you are at Casa Mamalba. Casa Mamalba is our family retreat, we come here to resource and unwind. Located within the "Casco Historico" (Antigua city limits) it's close enough to go out and about and enjoy all that Antigua has to offer but private enough to enjoy the natural surroundings, the amazing view of water volcano & the humming of birds. The property has one main stand alone traditional casa Antigueña, that includes 3 bedrooms and where all common areas are located, and in the surrounding gardens just off the pool sit 2 stand alone little casitas that account for the two other bedrooms. Totalling 5 bedrooms with a capacity for 16 guests. The main casa -like true traditional colonial homes- has an inner courtyard with a garden & fountain in the middle of the home. Surrounding that inner courtyard you have on one side 3 bedrooms each with its own ensuite bathroom, and on the other side the kitchen, a guest toilet, the double living room with chimnea and library, the formal dinning room and exterior veranda where breakfast is served with a volcano view. The garden & pool area has 2 stand alone little casitas. One of them is a bedroom with a doule bed & ensuite bathroom and the other located just in front of the pool has 2 double beds & ensuite bathroom. Guests can access all common areas of the house, this includes the double living room with working fireplace, the veranda where you can enjoy your breakfast overlooking the water volcano, the dining room, the kitchen, the garden & of course, the pool. Staying in a private home is great, but having staff take care of you is even better. Relax during your holidays; our staff living on the premises will handle the housework and make your stay more enjoyable. - All guests will be greeted by the care takers of the home who live on the premises - * Breakfast is on us. Our staff will setup the table, prepare a homemade and locally sourced fresh breakfast and wash the dishes. * Each day your beds will be made and your bathroom cleaned for your comfort (linens will be changed for stays longer than one week). * Antigua can get a little cool at night; sit back in front of a nice heartwarming chimney while you sip an orange leaf tea from our garden. * Pool & Garage: they will open garage doors for you and take care of the pool & fountain. We work in Guatemala city therefore we won't always be able to host our guests personally. We will however, be available to answer any questions and/or give our guests recommendations via the Airbnb app. On the occasions that we will be available to host personally, we will be happy to engage as much or as little as our guests want. The property is located near el Calvario church, within Antigua city limits. It is close enough to enjoy the colonial heritage, nightlife, and cultural vibrancy this beautiful city has to offer, while also providing privacy and seclusion. Walk to Caoba farms, they have a lovely farmer's market and live music on weekends. Eat at the coveted Le Comedor restaurant, it get quickly filled but it's so worth it. Enjoy an open air concert at La Ermita de la Santa Cruz church and walk back home. There are many ways to get around in Antigua: BY CAR, you are welcome to use our indoor parking, however be aware that parking in Antigua requires you to purchase a Q10 a day parking Tax ($1.20/day passes are sold by local transit police directly on the streets). Parque central is a 7mn car ride. BY TUK TUK, if you feel like having a little adventure, try the local and very affordable 3 wheel motorcycle taxis, be prepared for a fast and bumpy ride (and always negociate your rate before getting in the tuk tuk). Here are some examples of fares: Casa Mamalba to Parque central is 6mn away - approximately Q25 ($3.50) Casa Mamalba to the Handicraft Market is 10mn away - approximately Q30 ($4.00) BY FOOT, we recommend walking around town during the day, at night, it's always a better idea to take a Tuk Tuk (this is valid for all Antigua). Parque central is a 20mn walk away. If you enjoy walking this is beautiful walk, you can stop by parque la Union (Las pilas) and many churches in between. We recommend taking a Tuk Tuk to central park and then strolling during the day. Antigua is meant to be explored and discovered, you will find plenty of gorgeous gems hidden away behind the pastel colored chipped wall houses. Additional fees apply for washing, drying and ironing services. If you need a shirt to be ironed we will do it as a courtesy, however if you need to iron all of your wash then we will apply a small fee. Washing machine: $7.00 per load. Drying machine: $3.00 per load. Ironing: $0.50 per item. NOTE: Each guest is responsible to make sure all of the clothes handed for washing/drying are machine washable/dryable and needs to specify the program and degrees wanted to our staff. We will not be responsible for damaged clothing that was handed for machine washing. The property is located near el Calvario church, within Antigua city limits.
